Hey – don’t be a jerk!

This post is not about difficult or challenging clients. Bring those on, we love ’em. Why? Because you typically always know where you stand – for good or for bad. This post is about nightmare clients – loosely defined as irrational, mean, passive aggressive, ignorant, controlling, poor listeners, and generally unhappy people.

Nightmare clients.

We’ve all had ’em and will have ’em again. Just because you pay us a modest monthly retainer and unjustly believe that you can do our job, you just don’t have time for it, does not give you the authority to be a jerk to me our my staff. It’s actually a very simple request.

I work with some of the brightest minds in the PR industry on a daily basis. I also represent some of the most energetic, intelligent, innovative and interesting clients in the tech industry. However, there’s always going to be a bad apple among the client bunch. It’s a fact of being in the business of representing clients.

The key is to identify the red flags early on, address them head on, elicit a client response and mutually come to a solution. But then again, nightmare clients will never find fault with their actions – only yours.
